Silver Cloud II Steering Wobble - John Prescott

My 1960 Silver Cloud II was having a serious steering problem. Not only was there a lot of play in the steering but there was also an audible click when turning the wheel from side to side. Although the car continually passed its MOT, there was obviously a problem somewhere.

My trusted mobile mechanic immediatelly knew the answer - a worn out steering coupling. This is the bit of rubber between the prongs at the bottom of the steering column and those on the steering box. To get at this necessitated removing the steering column, gear selector and the ancilliary electrics. A picture of the old coupling together with the new are shown. Total work time by an experienced mechanic was 8.5 hours.

Cost of parts Approx £ 85.00 (Introcar only had one in stock, Jack Barclay had none)
